GEOFEST INTERNATIONAL 3rd to 6th November, 2007

World Unity Convention Center (WUCC),  Lucknow INDIA

National Geography Olympiad aims to develop interest of students in Geography. On one hand it deals with individuals and environment and on the other it studies the causes and effect of various natural phenomena occurring on earth's surface.

For quite some time people have mistakenly believed that geography is related to the study of map and nothing more. But now the people have realized how important the subject is because it encompasses a wide range of studies of the earth including the environment that sustains lives.

The terms acid rain, stone cancer, global warming, deforestation, soil erosion, extinction of animal species, pollution, green house effect etc, have caused immense concern and dismay to people. This environment deterioration has made the people sit up and look back, why have the things gone wrong.

Keeping these reasons in mind Geofest was started to generate deeper interest in the study of geography among students.

It is gratifying to see that this step has elicited a wide response from teachers and student community. As a result we feel happy to report, that nearly 90 national and international teams have been taking part in it since then.

GEOFEST INTERNATIONAL& NATIONAL GEOGRAPHY OLYMPIAD are two different events conducted simultaneously.

GOFEST INTERNATIONAL has served another purpose and it is, that all environment conscious teachers and students are now meeting and discussing together the ways and means to purify environment for survival of not only humans but also all living creatures..

National Geography Olympiad is a platform to groom Indian students to make their presence felt in the international arena.

The winners of National Geography Olympiad are eligible to represent India in NATIONAL GEOGRAPHY WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, organized by National Geographic Society, USA

In 2003, 2005 and 2007, three teams comprising of the winners of National Geography Olympiad participated in World Championship held at Tampa, Florida (USA), Budapest (Hungary) and San Diego, California (USA) respectively.

The next team will be participating in the World Championship in the year 2009
